What’s your favorite way to be outdoors? Favorite place(s)?
I enjoy hiking, whether it is in the Whites, the Shenandoahs or anywhere in between the chance to be outdoors in the trees enjoying the wildflowers, birds, and true beauty of nature fills me with calm and joy.
How did you first get involved with AMC?
When I was young, I hiked in the Whites with my dad and later with both of my children. I have stayed in all the huts – several of them numerous times.
As an AMC member, how has your experience of the outdoors evolved?
I have now gone to Maine and visited Medawisla and hiked Mt. Katahdin and explored other trails throughout that area. I have also gotten my sister, a long time New Hampshire resident, to start hiking the 4,000 footers with me.
What motivated you to create a matching challenge this year?
Two things are important to me: getting people outdoors and conserving land for future generations to enjoy. AMC’s mission and values align with both of those goals.
Why is giving to AMC so important?
It is important to preserve the wilderness for future generations and to contribute to decreasing CO2 in the air.
